Sailing and cycling, ultracycling and triathlon, environment and active citizenship. Tropea continues to strengthen its positioning as an experiential destination capable of speaking also through sport, in a story made of attraction and active use of the territory. After a summer full of national events and identity initiatives, November confirms this direction with the Triathlon of the Gods.
Macrì: “Sport speaks the language of the experiential destination perfectly”
Sport – underlines the mayor Giovanni Macrì – is one of the keys with which Tropea can differentiate targets, intercept dynamic, qualified and sensitive audiences to the quality of the experience. Athletes, families, companions, enthusiasts, sports communities and active travelers can also experience our places through the body. This is why sport speaks the language of the experiential destination perfectly. A bet in which we have invested energy and interests, reactivating all those initiatives that had been suspended.
It was a summer dedicated to sport
2026 has already delivered an important sequence of sporting and identity events to the living area. In June the city hosted the 4th Latin Sailing Gathering, two days promoted by the Asd Vela Club Tropea in collaboration with the Antica Marineria Catonese Association. Also in June, it was the turn of the Giro Next Gen 2026, with the start of one of the Calabrian stages of the cycling race dedicated to young talents. Immediately afterwards, the Tropean sea welcomed the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour – Il Giro d’Italia a Vela 2026, transforming the city into a stage in a great national story made up of sport, young people, the sea, the future and the promotion of the coastal territories. Then, in July, Tropea welcomed the national tour Beyond Limits – Not Just Ultracycling, the project of the Paralympic champion Andrea Pusateri, involved in the Amantea–Tropea stage.
Now comes the great athletics with Justin Mattera and the Triathlon of the Gods
The next big event will be Sunday 1 November, starting at 2 pm, when the Triathlon of the Gods will return, now in its fourth edition. Swimming, cycling and running will meet in a single multidisciplinary competition, capable of enhancing the sea, road, landscape and natural identity of Tropea. The event, promoted by Asd X-Sport Green led by president Luca Mancuso, will attract over 100 athletes to the city and will have Justine Mattera as guest of honor. A presence that confirms the growth of an event capable of generating movement, visibility and participation, bringing with it athletes, companions and enthusiasts from different territories.
