Two serious road accidents occurred during the night on the SS280 in Calabria, requiring the immediate intervention of the Catanzaro Fire Brigade and the competent authorities.

Head-on collision at the exit of the Sansinato tunnel

The first accident occurred near the exit of the Sansinato tunnel. Two cars were involved: an Audi A3 and a Volkswagen Tuareg. A family made up of a father, mother and a child was traveling on board the Tuareg, all of whom were transported to hospital for checks. However, the conditions of the driver of the Audi, who was pulled from the wreckage by the Fire Brigade and urgently transferred to hospital by 118 personnel, were more serious.

Rescue operations required the temporary closure of the road section, while the authorities are carrying out investigations to determine the causes of the collision. The Traffic Police and Anas personnel were present on site to restore safety on the stretch.

Car overturned near the Settingiano junction

Shortly after, a second accident occurred on the same artery in the direction of Catanzaro, near the Settingiano junction. A DR3 car, running on petrol/LPG, lost control, hitting the guardrail and overturning. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was extracted by the Fire Brigade and suffered only minor injuries. Again, the causes of the accident are under investigation.
