The path undertaken by UICI and IAPB has reached another important milestone. The “Project for the development of services for blind people with multiple disabilities” has achieved all the objectives it had set, demonstrating once again that it is possible to commit and work to give opportunities to those who have been less fortunate.
The data was presented by the UICI and IAPB regional president Pietro Testa assisted by the national councilors Annamaria Palummo and Luciana Loprete and by the report by Annunziato Denisi (Legal consultant UICI Calabria).
The work carried out by UICI and IAPB Calabria has allowed highly experienced professional operators selected through public notice to provide services to multi-impaired visually impaired people present in the Calabrian area. In particular, among others, consultancy services were provided to families, extra-curricular educational assistance, orientation and mobility, personal autonomy, music therapy, swimming, basal stimulation and basal play.
This is a sort of unicum as Calabria was the first region, through law number 17 of 2019, which tried to design a virtuous path to be proposed again at a national level with the active involvement not only of the other regional bodies but of the national government.
Satisfaction, and it could not be otherwise, was expressed by the regional president of the UICI and IAPB Pietro Testa. «We know well the type of responsibility we take on when we carry out this type of project. The work of all these years is repaid by the trust of politicians who see us as a reliable social partner. Once again we have managed to provide effective support to families and the prospect is to further broaden the range of those who will be able to benefit from these services.”
The national councilors of UICI, Luciana Loprete and Annamaria Palummo, also expressed satisfaction with what was done during the year: «The quality of the project carried out this year and above all the concreteness of the work carried out. Calabria represents an excellence that the other regions, and we will certainly talk about this at a national level, will have to follow in order not to leave people with multiple visual disabilities alone.”
The results of the “Project for the development of services for blind people with multiple disabilities” also moved the Councilor for Welfare of the Calabria Region Caterina Capponi who, as spokesperson for the President of the Region Roberto Occhiuto absent for health reasons, not only recognized the value and quality of the work carried out but also ensured: «Support for all those projects aimed at leaving no one behind. Only by looking in this direction will we be able to make a leap in quality. This is why I thank the UICI and the IAPB for submitting projects to us which aim to improve the conditions of multi-disabled people and which we will always support with great enthusiasm, demonstrating that Calabria has a heart and a great social vision”.
There was no lack of support from the national UICI and IAPB. President Mario Barbuto, connected via video conference, expressed great satisfaction with what the association has been carrying out for several years.
The good news of the day then came from Annunziato Denisi: «In agreement with the Region we managed to eliminate the waiting times between the start of one project and another. This will allow us in the future to give our members the opportunity to have a continuity of services that can only make the work done grow.”
