The University of Calabria is preparing to host a prominent event in the scientific panorama: on July 3, the Aula Magna “B. Andreatta” will be the stage of “Tell Lino”. The initiative will see the participation of authoritative Italian and international experts, a Nobel Prize, the leaders of the national and regional civil protection in the field of soil defense and mitigation of risks. The goal is twofold: to deepen the mitigation strategies of natural risks and civil protection planning, while making a heartfelt tribute to Pasquale (Lino) Versace, emeritus professor and undisputed pillar of the sector in the national technical-scientific scene.
The event, promoted and organized by the Camilab (environmental cartography and hydrogeological modeling workshops), of which Versace was director and in which the second level master’s degree is incardinated in “Multheist analysis and civil protection planning”, aims to analyze the issues and problems open on the provision and prevention of risks. It will be an opportunity to remember Professor Versace’s extraordinary skills in interpreting and understanding natural phenomena starting from a particularly exposed territory such as that of Calabria, and in proposing innovative solutions for the mitigation of risk and emergency management. His career was an example of dedication to the safety of communities, providing innovative methodologies and strategic visions essential to deal with the challenges posed by hydrogeological risks.

Professor Versace’s living inheritance: practical research and application
The opening of the works will be entrusted to Giovanna Capparelli, professor Unical and current director of Camilab, who will trace “the scientific and human profile of Professor Pasquale Versace”. Capparelli underlines the importance of this initiative, stating that “that of the” Prof “Versace is a lively legacy, which is handed down and renewed thanks to its teachings”.
In fact, many have collected his witness, carrying out his ideas and shaping the future of research and practical application in this strategic sector. The day will be structured in various thematic sessions, offering a work of work and tight comparison that will explore the multiple facets of Versace’s commitment and contemporary evolutions in the field of land defense.

Training and innovation at the service of the territory
The issues that will be treated during the event are placed in close continuity with the theoretical and practical contents developed within the Master in “Multi -Christ analysis and civil protection planning”. This training course, financed by the Ministry of University and Research as part of the “Territorial Pacts of High Training for Business” project, aims to further enrich the knowledge of the enrolled students, all professionals in the sector, and to consolidate their skills.
The event is therefore not only a tribute to an illustrious figure, but a crucial moment of dialogue and relaunch for the research and application of the best practices in the defense of the soil. In a historical period in which climate change amplify the hydrogeological risks, the vision and legacy of Pasquale Versace continue to illuminate the path towards a safer and resilient future. The Unical, with this initiative, once again confirms itself as an excellence pole and innovation engine at the service of the territory and the community.
