The impressive 5 million euro intervention financed by the PNRR on Viale dei Normanni continues, aimed at mitigating the hydrogeological risk of the slope upstream and downstream of the road. The works, which have already been underway for a few weeks, will now enter their most delicate phase, which will involve the complete closure of the affected section to vehicular traffic.

The closure, which will last approximately two months, is necessary to allow full compliance with the work timetable and to guarantee the correct execution of the planned works, avoiding any risk of loss of the PNRR financing. To limit inconvenience to motorists and ensure easy access to the historic centre, the municipal administration – after having listened to the conference of group leaders and on the basis of the indications of the Local Police Command – is about to approve a new alternative road plan in the area. The details of the new traffic structure will be made known in the next few days, but the general system will follow the experience already adopted between 2011 and 2019, when similar works had required the closure of the same artery.

The entry into force of the new road system is currently scheduled for Saturday 22 November, the date on which the specific union ordinance that will regulate traffic will be published.

The proposal overcame an alternative solution put forward by councilor Sergio Costanzo, which envisaged a change of direction on Via Carlo V. With this measure, the Administration aims to reconcile the progress of the construction site with the need to keep the historic center fully usable, reducing inconvenience to residents, commercial activities and visitors to a minimum.
