Last night, the military of the Vibo Valentia Coast Guard completed an operation to combat the Illegal red tuna fishing, particularly valuable fish species and demand in the international market.
The military, during the supervisory surveillance services, intercepted a van intent on transporting Nine specimens of red tuna, with a total weight of over three quintals, destined to be placed on the black market.
The driver was high an administrative sanction of 2,000 euros as it transported fish product without the documentation certifying the origin of the same.
With the support of a carabinieri patrol, intervened on the spot, the administrative detention of the vehicle was also ordered, since without insurance coverage and periodic review.
The Port Authority of Vibo Valentia will continue in the next few days the activity of the maritime police, both at sea and on the ground, aimed at preventing and contrasting the phenomenon of illegal fishing, not declared and unregulated.
It should be noted that, as ordered by the Ministry of Agriculture, food sovereignty and forests, given by 04 June, since the thresholds relating to the shares assigned to the maritime compartments of the Ionian and the Tyrrhenian Sea have been reached for the accessory capture of red tuna, it is forbidden to carry out, land, transboria and market, with any reason, accessory catches (by-catch) of red tuna.
