After a few months of normality, the emergency room of the Vibo hospital returns to the most critical scenario. Patients placed on stretchers placed everywhere waiting for a place to become available in the hospitalization departments, others wait for hours and hours to be visited. The complaints of family members and users are heard. «We have been waiting for a visit for my father for hours – said a young man from the Vibo hinterland –; From what we understand, the lack of staff is causing slowdowns in taking care of users. The limited staff in service is dealing with continuous flows and is doing their best to manage all users, but objectively it is impossible to handle this situation”.
From what has transpired, the situation in the department has collapsed again since the number of medical staff has decreased: in this period, in fact, there are only two doctors per shift instead of the usual four. There is also a shortage of nurses, as not all quarterly workers with contracts that expired in October have been replaced. In fact, we are reaching the point of having only 3 nurses per shift instead of 5: an insufficient number to manage triage, theater and emergency medicine, so much so that the latter is at risk. And between staff illnesses and holidays, the situation is worsening.
