Enhance the extraordinary landscape elements that characterized the old railway track of the Littorina and revive them in the form of a stunning cycle route. It is based on this concept definitive project approved by the municipal council of Vibo Valentia, led by the mayor Maria Limardowith which it intends to redevelop one of the most evocative nature trails, which in the objectives of the administration will become a major tourist attraction, but not only.

“This administration – says the mayor – has managed to intercept 20 million euros of the PNRR intended for urban regeneration, including the Littorina project for an amount of 1.4 million euros. It’s not just a matter of redeveloping a route, it’s a matter of giving the community what could become a new place of the heart, as many other places and suggestive corners of our city are for the Vibonese. A place to take a walk, ride a bike in total safety while admiring the landscape and appreciating all the beauty we have”.

The redevelopment of the route offers an excellent opportunity for tourist attraction as well as an important connection for resident citizens. The area is currently in total abandonment with uneven and not easily practicable paths. The interventions envisage the resurfacing with suitable flooring for pedestrian and cycling routes, with the creation of two rest areas which represent rest and refreshment areas for cyclists and pedestrians and will be equipped with pergolas, benches, litter bins and racks for bikes.

The area of interest is located on leaving the urban core of Vibo Valentia, towards the sea. This is the old Littorina railway track that connects the city to the municipality of Pizzo, with a path forbidden to cars, at an altitude of 500 m asl, and with a breathtaking view. Two kilometers of route that also meet tunnels and bridges and which will further enhance the usability of the side of the city that overlooks one of the most beautiful panoramas in the whole of Calabria.
