The Carabinieri of the Villa San Giovanni Company carried out an extraordinary check near the disembarkation pier of subjects coming from Sicily, as part of the activities aimed at preventing and repressing crimes linked to drug trafficking.
During the service, a car carrying a couple and two children attracted the attention of the military. The behavior of the two adults, who were particularly nervous, immediately aroused the suspicion of the operators, who decided to proceed with a search of the vehicle.
The inspection led to a significant discovery: inside a bag placed at the passenger’s feet, the Carabinieri found three packages containing almost 1 kg of cocaine and 55 blocks of hashish, for a total weight of approximately 6 kg.
The two subjects, both residents of Reggino, were arrested flagrantly for possession for the purpose of trafficking of narcotic substances in competition and taken to the barracks for the ritual investigations. At the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Reggio Calabria, the two were subsequently transferred to the prison of the capital.
The seizure represents the result of careful control of the territory, conducted by the Carabinieri, which allowed large quantities of narcotics to be removed from the market.
