During the night, unknown persons set fire to two cars owned by the family of the president of the municipal council of Villapiana (Cs), Joseph Guida, who is also the city secretary of the Democratic Party. The mayor of the town, Vincenzo Ventimiglia, gave the news. «This night – he states – the President of the City Council and his family were victims of a serious act which caused the fire of two cars. I immediately went to the scene and, although the investigations are still ongoing, a malicious motive emerges. If confirmed, it would be – he continues – an extremely serious episode which I strongly condemn. I promptly informed all the competent law enforcement agencies, so that all the necessary actions could be activated to shed full light on the incident. I would like to express, on my behalf and that of the entire administration, the utmost closeness and solidarity to the Prime Minister and his family.”

Senator Ernesto Rapani (FdI) also spoke on the episode. «An ignoble and unacceptable gesture, which deserves the strongest condemnation» states Rapani, expressing personal and institutional solidarity with the Guida family. “Acts like this – he adds – affect not only those who are direct victims of them, but the entire community, undermining the civil coexistence and mutual respect that must be the basis of our democracy.” The Fratelli d’Italia parliamentarian hoped that the police would shed full light on the incident and that those responsible would be identified as soon as possible: “It is necessary that those who try to intimidate through violence or vandalism understand that the State is present and does not take a step back.” Rapani concludes with an appeal to a sense of unity: «In moments like these, political affiliations don’t matter. What counts is solidarity, legality and respect for respectable people who serve the institutions with commitment and honesty.”
