Only a couple of months ago, it was mid-September, President Pippo Callipo had expressed regret for the lack of interest on the part of the Municipality of Vibo Valentia towards Volley Tuna Callipo Calabria.
Since then the silence on the part of the municipal body has become deafening, in the sense that the normal collaboration which, on the contrary, should be among the main albeit mandatory duties of the institutional role of a municipal body is completely absent.
Instead, none of this, just distance, as if the Municipality were not the owner of the PalaValentia given in concession to Tonno Callipo and for which the company pays a regular rent. President Callipo’s association, precisely in relation to the maintenance of the PalaValentia, had forwarded several certified e-mails to the Municipality requesting authorization to carry out, at its own expense, urgent works considering that it is raining inside. The bad weather at the beginning of the year, in fact, increased the damage to the roof of the structure, thus causing the infiltration of rainwater near the playing field. Another serious problem concerns the ancient plumbing system to guarantee the functionality of the now disastrous showers. This is basic maintenance and ignoring Tonno Callipo’s requests denotes contempt and disregard for the Institution’s institutional obligations.
“For our part – underlines the President Pippo Callipo – there has always been maximum collaboration with all the Administrations that have succeeded one another in the Municipality. But not receiving any response to our requests leaves us stunned especially considering that for over thirty years, not only have we held high in the world of sport, the name of the city of Vibo Valentia and of Calabria as a whole with high level results but we also carry out an important social function by introducing hundreds of children who make up our youth sector to the practice of volleyball, removing them from dangerous distractions that are increasingly present in current times.”
Another important issue to address is the high cost of the TARI: the current legislation in fact – underlines President Callipo – provides for some reductions that the Municipality continues to unjustifiably deny us from 2020 onwards, forcing us to initiate litigation for each year.
Furthermore, the Municipality of Vibo Valentia persists in requesting the TARI without applying the benefits provided by law, not even in the face of the favorable outcomes of some tax judgements, denoting a behavior that is in clear contrast with the principles of good administration.”
Then the thrust of President Callipo, somewhat saddened by the turn of events: “In these conditions of total disinterest, without any respect for our obvious economic sacrifices and not only that, we will carefully evaluate the different offers that come to us from other parts of our Region. We ask ourselves, in fact, what sense it makes to continue to carry out our sporting activity – with all the positive consequences that also follow in social terms – in a Municipality where we are given this treatment, where we are even denied fundamental answers, necessary to guarantee the carrying out of sporting practice and the essential safety conditions that concern the entire community.”
