The third stage of the Vuelta a España 2026, the 174 kilometer Gruissan-Font-Romeu in French territory, was first suspended and then canceled due to a violent hailstorm.
The group was hit by bad weather during the final ascent. Numerous cyclists stopped 15.8 kilometers from the finish line to seek shelter inside a structure.
The race’s technical director later confirmed the cancellation of the stage, after it became impossible to reach the finish line in Font-Romeu. Team buses were sent to the scene to recover the riders.
