Hundreds of drones struck Moscow overnight, killing two men on the outskirts of the Russian capital and wounding nine others. The Russian authorities made this known. Overnight, “650 drones were launched towards the Moscow region,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram, underlining that “most were destroyed by long-range air defense.”

The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, said that 185 drones were “destroyed or neutralized” overnight in 16 municipalities in the region. He then added on Telegram that the attack killed two men, aged 71 and 20, in two different locations on the outskirts of Moscow, while nine others were injured. Furthermore, 47 houses in seven municipalities were damaged, as well as four apartments in a residential building in the village of Lobanovo. According to Russian state news agency TASS, the bombing was the second largest drone attack in the past two years against the Russian capital and the surrounding region, hundreds of kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Operations at Moscow’s four airports were disrupted by the attack, with air traffic restrictions imposed several times throughout the night and morning, according to Russia’s civil aviation agency Rosaviatsia.
