The initiative, stated Club President Ignazio Cuconato in the introduction, was created with the aim of offering food for thought, increasing collective awareness and promoting constructive dialogue between institutions, citizens and associations.
A very topical issue, added the President, because it closely affects not only environmental policies and economic development, but also the quality of life in our communities.
The meeting represented a moment of constructive discussion between experts, administrators and citizens, aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of adopting responsible behavior in waste management. Both the strengths and critical points of the current system were highlighted, underlining how the active participation of all the actors involved is fundamental to building a sustainable and virtuous model.

The event featured Eng. as speaker. Ida Cozza, manager of Sector 7 – Waste, Environmental Protection and Circular Economy of the Calabria Region and editor of the new Waste Management Plan.
During his speech, Eng. Cozza illustrated the regulatory and social framework that regulates waste management, retracing its historical evolution and underlining the importance of creating a shared culture on environmental sustainability. “To transform waste into a resource – he explained – we need adequate tools and, above all, the awareness and active participation of citizens and local administrators”.
The work was introduced by Eng. Donatella Cristiano, prefect of the Rotary Club Presila Cosenza Est and co-editor, together with Eng. Cozza, of the regional waste plan. In her speech Donatella Cristiano underlined how talking about waste means addressing not only a technical or environmental issue, but also a social and cultural one: a theme that concerns our way of living, producing, consuming and taking care of the community. “It is an issue, he concluded, which affects the health of citizens, the quality of the environment and the economic and employment prospects of the region”.
Various representatives of the institutions took part in the event: the Mayor of Zumpano, Fabrizio Fabiano, the Mayor of Castiglione Cosentino, Salvatore Magarò, the Mayor of Lappano, Marcello Gaccione, the Councilor for the Environment of the Municipality of Casali del Manco, Gianluca Ferraro and the Councilor for the Environment of the Municipality of Rose, Michele Perrone.
During the debate, the administrators highlighted the importance of collaboration between local authorities and the Region to address critical issues and promote more efficient waste management, citing the virtuous initiatives already launched as an example.
