Jannik Sinner suffers, but emerges victorious from the Wimbledon center on his debut on the London grass. The reigning champion had to sweat his proverbial sweats to overcome the Serbian Kecmanovic, beaten 3-2 in a comeback (the blue was first 0-1 and then 1-2 down in the set count). Sinner won with these partials: 4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.

“I was a little nervous. The blood? My nail broke”

«On the eve and also today I was a little nervous: it’s not easy to take the court here as the reigning champion”: Jannik Sinner admitted this after the difficult victory over Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round of Wimbledon. «It’s an honor to open the tournament on the Centrale: at the beginning of the match I was a little tense», said the world number one, «I didn’t play at my best and I wasn’t able to get into the match straight away. I’m happy to have recovered, even if the third set was difficult to send down.”
The Italian also explained the blood that appeared on his shoe after the fall in the third set: «My nail broke and I didn’t want to disturb the match by stopping the game to change my sock, Miomir had a good rhythm. I’m happy to have won but I know that I will have to improve for the next match: today I made many mistakes in the first two sets. This, however, is normal, because the first matches are never easy.” Then he joked about white, the only color imposed by the tournament: «I’m fine, I’m surprised that they let me play, the shoe went from white to a little red…».
