Four days after the start of the winter sales, in the city the time of waiting has already given way to that of the first balance sheets. The shop windows display clear discounts, the price tags have been rewritten and walking along Corso Mazzini tells of a city that is returning to buying, but at a measured pace.
The sales are there, they work, but they are no longer an assault. They are a thoughtful choice. The first weekend of discounts animated the streets of the center especially in the afternoon hours, among families looking for useful opportunities and young people attentive to comparing prices and quality.
You enter shops with greater awareness, you observe, you try, you ask. Impulse buying seems to have given way to more thoughtful consumption, the result of an economic period that requires attention and selection.
According to estimates from the Confcommercio Calabria Study Center, the 2026 winter sales could generate a turnover of between 110 and 130 million euros in the region, involving between 450 and 500 thousand families. The expected average expenditure is around 120 euros per person, around 220-240 euros per family unit: a figure slightly lower than the national average, but consistent with the trend of Calabrian consumption.
In this context, Cosenza confirms itself as the beating heart of regional trade. In fact, the province of Cosenza would be responsible for approximately 36% of the overall turnover of the sales, with an estimate of between 40 and 47 million euros.
