Two Moroccan citizens were arrested for domestic abuse. Since 2016, a woman has been forced to suffer harassment, physical and psychological violence from her husband and her cohabiting brother-in-law. The nightmare for the young Moroccan resident in Cirò Marina he ended up having found the courage to report his tormentors to the police. The investigations, in fact, made it possible to reconstruct, in great detail, the continuous violence suffered both during and after living with her ex-husband and his brother. The woman had married in Morocco in 2011, with the intermediation of her family of origin, and then moved to Italy in 2013 to follow her husband. Already the mother of a child, she also shared her daily life with his brothers, who lived in the same apartment, being deprived of any form of privacy and freedom. All this time, the feeling was that of living in prison. The men of the house constantly prevented her from any form of movement, the possibility of purchasing clothes and even equipping herself with a mobile phone which would allow her to maintain contact with her family of origin, forcing her to look after exclusively household chores, remaining in a form of social alienation. The victim’s complaints aimed at guaranteeing that minimum of personal independence were of no avail. Any hint of a possible rebellion by the woman was in fact immediately crushed by her husband and one of her brothers with every form of violence. There are numerous episodes of this kind and all constantly repeated over the years. Pregnant with her second child, she was beaten with a curtain rod for simply asking her brother-in-law to knock before entering the house, not wanting to be noticed in clothes considered too revealing. In an attempt to reason with her husband, who constantly threatened to abandon her with three children, she was scalded with boiling water. For the mere fact of having requested the purchase of a school backpack for her first child, she was violently beaten by him in the street until she fell on the pavement. Furthermore, not having correctly cleaned the sink at home from the residue of a fruit, caused the husband’s violent aggression which culminated in the rupture of the nasal septum. These are just some of the reconstructed episodes, indicative of an alarming pattern of abuse, which continued even after the separation. In fact, despite having found the courage to end the relationship, abandoning the family home with the three children, and meeting a new partner, her ex-husband, supported by one of the brothers, continued to persecute and threaten her, also involving her son. first-born minor. When she met her on the street she was addressed with insults of all kinds in Arabic, the same treatment that was reserved for the minor by both her father and her uncle, until the night of last August 3rd when the two perpetrated a real punitive expedition against of the woman and at her home. On this occasion the brothers, having managed to gain entry into the apartment, again in the presence of the minors, beat the woman, damaged furnishings and removed a gold necklace from her possession before fleeing. The intervention of the eldest son was providential as, during the violence, he managed to free himself and contact 112 requesting the intervention of a Carabinieri patrol. This is precisely the event that started the investigations carried out by the Carabinieri of Cirò Marina, conducted under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crotone, the results of which were shared by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations and included in a specific order of submission to precautionary measure which, in recent days, has made it possible to arrest those responsible, associating them with the Crotone prison, restoring freedom to the victim. The suspects, whose guilt must in any case be ascertained during the trial phase, in compliance with the cross-examination and the right of defence, will be subjected to preliminary interrogation in the next few days.
