The essence of life that is lived in Calabriawhere the emergency is daily bread and the normality is rare goods, it is the one that flows from the source of territorial differences. This is an increasingly poor land at the registry. Poor and elderly. A land that is preparing to celebrate the workers’ party while emptying young people and hopes. On May 1st in the South is now a liturgy reduced to a refined and didactic narrative, based on a conventional model in the midst of increasingly empty and insignificant reports. THEThe 2024 in Calabria closed with an employment rate of 44.8%, substantially stable, but with an unemployment that drops to 13.1% (against 15.9% of 2023). And also in 2024 the breathtaking of young people is confirmed. It was the CNEL, with the document “Demography and workforce”, to turn on the spotlight on the difficulties of employment of the Under 35, detecting enormous figures of dissatisfied potential demand, measured with the indicator (introduced by the EU) of the Labor Market Slack. And so from the mapping it emerged that the dissatisfied demand for work is relatively high in the countries of southern Europe and, in particular, in the more peripheral regions, while it is lower in the Eastern Europe countries. The highest levels of Labor Market Slack, at least 21% of the extended workforce were recorded in four Member States: nine regions in Spain, seven in Italy, four in Greece and four peripheral regions of France. In Sicily and French Guyana, the highest peaks (38.9%), immediately behind Campania and Calabria and the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta, all with percentages of over 35% of the under 35.
