A scene similar to the one in October last year, when a water bomb triggered a river of mud that fell on the town.
This is what the Taormina hamlet of Mazzeo experienced yesterday morning, forced to suffer an inconvenience related to the efficiency improvements to the Fiumefreddo pipelinecarried out by Amam on the aqueduct that supplies the city of Messina. During the operations to unload the water present in the pipeline, in fact, a significant spill of muddy material occurred in the town of Mazzeo, with a real torrent that starting from the hill upstream ran through the canal under the A18 motorway and the State Road 114, flowing up to the hamlet where it invaded some roads and a part of the seafront, in particular the southern area corresponding to the council houses.

Water and mud have also reached the beach and the sea, creating problems for bathing establishmentswith such a flow that a brown stain formed in the Taormina waters also near the Sirina torrent. The citizens of Mazzeo protested against the sudden muddy waterfall that invaded the town and called for the intervention of the Fire Brigade, while some residents tried to free grates and manholes to let the mud that was coming in abundantly flow out. The Amam teams went to the site to verify and restore the state of the places and regarding what happened the president of Amam, Loredana Bonasera, sent a note to the general manager, asking for clarification on the episodeand urgently requested a detailed report on the incident to identify the causes, apologizing to the local community for the inconvenience caused, while waiting to receive timely explanations on what happened.
