No one guilty for the shooting that occurred in Vibo Valentia in the central Piazza Municipio on the night of 10 July 2016. The second criminal section of the Supreme Court has in fact declared that there is no need to proceed against the accused Loris Palmisano, 29 years old, from Vibo Valentia, since the contested crimes have now expired due to the statute of limitations. At first instance he was sentenced by the Court of Vibo on 8 April 2024 to a sentence of 4 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of personal injury aggravated by the use of a gun, plus an 11 thousand euro fine and disqualification from holding public office for 5 years. At first instance, the prosecutor of the Vibo Prosecutor’s Office, Eugenia Belmonte, had asked for Palmisano to be sentenced to 13 years and 6 months in prison for the crimes of attempted murder aggravated by frivolous motives, possession and illegal carrying of a firearm in a public place. Two of the injured were taken immediately to hospital: Domenico Camillò and Mirko La Grotteria. At the center of the shooting was the dispute over a girl. On 20 November 2023, Loris Palmisano was sentenced in first instance to 14 years and 2 months in the Rinascita Scott maxi-trial against the ‘ndrangheta of the Vibonese area, while Domenico Camillò was sentenced in the same maxi-trial to 26 years in prison. The appeal process is underway for both.
