Around 5 thousand pre-cooked pizzas and pinsas with false “Made in Italy” indications were seized by the financial police in the port of Barletta.
Two people are under investigation by the Trani Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges of introducing food products bearing counterfeit indications and designations of origin into Italian territory. This is the haulier and the recipient of the goods.
Controls in the port of Barletta
The military intercepted the cargo on board a truck landed from Albania. Inside the vehicle, approximately 5 thousand pre-cooked bakery foods were found, including pizzas and pinsas, with packaging and packaging which, according to investigators, bore images, writings and signs such as to mislead the consumer as to the real origin of the products.
The checks on the commercial documentation confirmed the investigators’ suspicions and made it possible to identify the recipients of the goods.
Searches in three regions
At the disposal of the Trani Prosecutor’s Office, searches were carried out in the provinces of Naples, Milan and Reggio Calabria. Even in these checks, products of the same nature and with similar counterfeit indications of “Made in Italy” were found.
The judicial authority has ordered the donation of the food seized from the Caritas of Barletta, Andria and Trani to charity, so that it can be allocated to the neediest families in the area.
