“The regional council considers the creation of high-speed rail in Calabria to be one of the essential objectives of its government action. In this regard, I reiterate that there is no diversion or theft of funds for the High Speed Sa/Rc, provided for by the Pnrr and the complementary fund, as shown in the Program Contract which anyone can consult on the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport Transport. In total, the resources available on it, destined for the aforementioned high speed, and never diverted over the years, therefore amount to approximately 12 billion euros. The Meloni government has not touched any expenditure chapter for the works already planned in Calabria. The financed works are in competition or are completing the approval process and, therefore, the resources are all fully put on the ground, something that has never happened in the past”. So Stefania CaraccioloCouncilor for Public Works of the Calabria Region.
Which continues: “As regards the electrification of the Jonica line, moreover – 438 million euros obtained almost entirely thanks to the work of the current regional government -, to date the works on the Sibari-Crotone and Crotone-Catanzaro Lido sections are were delivered between November and December 2024, substantially in line with the time schedule of the definitive approved projects. As regards the speeding up and electrification of the Lamezia section Terme-Catanzaro Lido, however, the preparatory activities of construction site, demolition and reclamation are underway and the continuation of the electrification from Catanzaro Lido to Roccella Jonica is already planned, for a total of 190 million euros programmed by our Council and including the design for the section from Roccella to Melito Porto Salvo. The current work schedule aims to complete the works in phases by 2026, in line with the objectives of the Pnrr from whose sources the investment is partially financed”.
