«We were, are and will be an anomaly. Now that important results are about to be achieved in all sectors, the mischievous wind of restoration is blowing again.” The mayor of Catanzaro states this on social media, in his now almost weekly column “Sunday thoughts”, Nicola Fiorita, with reference to the political situation in the Municipality.

The future of his majority is at great risk after Action’s decision to withdraw external support from the administration. In his social media release, the mayor reminds us that tomorrow he will hold the mid-term press conference which he says will be “a truth operation”. «The term restoration – begins Fiorita – historically refers to the return of the Bourbons to the throne of France, but over time it has taken on the meaning of a return to the past, to the worst past. I have the impression that in Catanzaro there is someone in the shadows who is thinking about a restoration. This was to be expected. A mayor coming from civil society who has made transparency, legality, the fight against crime and respect for the rules a reason for living is too inconvenient. An administration made up of many new faces, certainly inexperienced, sometimes naive, but animated by a great desire to do things and a sincere love for the city, is too uncomfortable. An administration that has broken an absolute monopoly in all the city’s power centers is too inconvenient. An administration which – underlines the mayor of Catanzaro – focuses on the problems of people, the weakest and children, is too inconvenient. Who thinks about opening nursery schools and community centres, who reopens school gyms, who invests millions of euros in making schools more efficient, who designs and builds new sports facilities. Which makes ideal battles on differentiated autonomy and the rights of disabled students. An administration that identifies dozens of illegal connections, crafty rubbish collectors, and uncivilized people who abandon the wrecks of cars is too inconvenient. We were, are and will be an anomaly. Now that important results are about to be achieved in all sectors – claims Fiorita – the mischievous wind of restoration is blowing again”. Fiorita again: «On Monday, with documents and figures in hand, we will demonstrate that these two and a half years of mandate have been very profitable and that many things have been done, have been started, have been programmed. I won’t anticipate the contents of the press conference, but I promise, in the following days, to meet associations and ordinary citizens to discuss it. Could more have been done? Certainly! Are there many problems still unsolved? Certainly! Have we made any mistakes? Certainly! But saying that the city is at a standstill is not right, it is not true and it is not even good for Catanzaro. The past twenty years are full of things that went wrong, much more important – concludes the mayor of Catanzaro – than a concert or a few potholes. Anyone who is tempted to write a negative comment do me (and do yourself) a favor: come to the library tomorrow at 10am.”
