Catanzaro, Pippo Inzaghi’s prophecy: “Giallorossi for the playoffs”

Solid, practical and with increasingly evident and effective lines of play, above all difficult for anyone to beat. Who knows, maybe Pippo Inzaghi is right: «Catanzaro, in my opinion, will make the playoffs». From a certain point of view it is logical that the Pisa coach tried to contextualize the point obtained by his team in a positive way: on Sunday afternoon he essentially blew it, it could and should have gone much worse than the 0-0 draw at the “Ceravolo”. However, one can also read at least a bit of sincerity in the words of the opposing coach because the Giallorossi were more continuous and created problems for the vice-leaders in the series.
They did it on a tactical level by building not only a numerical superiority in midfieldwith good work on the wings, with defensive compactness. They succeeded on a strictly technical level, reaching the conclusion many times in the area. At various times they responded blow for blow, even on the physical side, to a powerful and armored opponent. Above all, they built the game and opportunities in a non-episodic way, good at alternating plans by varying the phrasing that led to Pontisso’s shot at the start or to Scognamillo’s crosses for Iemmello and Pittarello, with Pigliacelli’s throws for Pontisso himself and Petriccione for Iemmello , which pierced the Tuscan defensive line.
Caserta had prepared it perfectly (like other times) and is starting to notice growth generalization of the team and the group, which now seems decidedly more united than it was – it couldn’t have been – at the beginning of the season. It is clear, as in other outings, the knockout blow that would allow Catanzaro to reap what he deserved was missing. Indeed, there is often the feeling that if Iemmello doesn’t score, no one else will. The problem exists if only one player scores 10 goals out of 25, but goals are happening to everyone (in Bolzano D’Alessandro, with Pisa Pontisso and Pittarello as well as Pompetti’s free kick), so it should be a matter of time – the hope is that it will be little – so that other protagonists will also be unlocked, for the first time or again. And watch out for the return of Antonini, who will sooner or later make himself heard in the opposing area.
The addition of Quagliata gives other options on the left, the imminent arrival of Ilie will reintroduce the characteristics of an attacking midfielder lost with the departure of Koutsoupias, and the currently unexplored opportunities that could open up towards the end of the transfer market: These are other aspects that can lead to further room for improvement.
As for the defensive solidity, there is very little to improve considering that the interpreters have partially changed (Brighenti is out at the moment), not the performance of a package and of the entire defensive system which gives little to anyone. In Brescia on Sunday it will be very tough, but the same goes for the opponents, whatever objective they pursue. So yes, maybe Super Pippo was 100 percent sincere and the playoffs are an objective within Catanzaro’s reach. The ranking doesn’t lie.
