Fear in the night in Montalto d’Aspromonte, the highest peak of Aspromonte located in the municipal area of San Luca, where two hikers, father and daughter, were given for several hours. The two, who left yesterday morning for an excursion between the woods, in the late afternoon they no longer gave news, triggering the alarm.
The rescue request came to the 115 operating room in Reggio Calabria around 11 pm. The person search plan was immediately activated, with the sending of a team of the headquarters and the support of the UCL mobile operating room (local command unit), equipped with specialized TAS personnel (topography applied to rescue). The teams of the white detachment also intervened to support the slope between Bovalino and the Aspromonte.
During the night the operations intensified with the arrival of the dog units of the firefighters from the commands of Vibo Valentia and Trapani, and the SAPR (remotely piloted aircraft system) of Calabria. The research teams also resorted to the “Geoloc” procedure and the IMSI Catcher system for the location of mobile phones.
Thanks to the coordination of the Tas units and the patrol of the impervious paths, the two missing were found around 7.10 this morning, over 1500 meters above sea level. Tired, cold but in good health, father and daughter have been reassured and accompanied in a safe area at the local firefighters’s command unit. Subsequently, they also proceeded to recover their car, which remained bogged down along a dirt path.
The operations took part in a total of 17 units of the firefighters with 7 vehicles. The intervention ended positively at 9.30.
