It is once made of memory and gaze to the future that retraced by Carlo Verdone to the National Archaeological Museum on the occasion of the event “In Reggio with Dad”, organized by the Anassilaos Association, by Liff- Lamezia International Film Fest-and the RCFF- Reggio Film Festival.
The crowded Piazza Paolo Orsi smells of culture and history, in that subtle thread between yesterday, today and tomorrow that the great actor and director seizes with the irony and wisdom that we well know well, but also with the emotion for the title of the cinema section of the Anassilaos Association to his father, professor Mario, an unforgettable figure of criticism and Italian cinematographic historiography. The president Stefano Iorfida announces this which gives Carlo Verdone himself the Anassilaos Megale Hellas prize. “In addition, the Anassilaos prize for cinema will be named after Mario Verdone from next year.”
«My father was a man full of passion, enthusiasm, love for the new and for art. From him, I inherited the rigor and discipline in work and in life, but I will never forget that time when, despite a rejection of mine at school, he led me to see the Beatles, “he says.
At the center of the evening, there is the conversation with Gian Lorenzo Franzì, director of Lamezia Film Festival, who opens the works with the director Michele Geria (Reggio Filmfest) and the director of the museum, Fabrizio Sudano (in conclusion, the intervention of the president of Calabria Film Commission, Anton Giulio Grande). 47 years of career flow, a heritage of challenges and successes that come to his last autobiographical series “Vita da Carlo”. «It was a tiring job, which led to good results. The script was born from real events of my life, Carlo is me: with all the things that accompany me ».
In the splendid scenario of the Morrc, the call could only go to the legendary bronzes who “breathe” so close, with their extraordinary history. «I had had the opportunity to admire them several years ago but today, in this museum so changed, there is a new emotion. It is as if I saw them for the first time », comments Verdone who launches a profound look at Calabria and Reggio:« The territory needs a great event, as in Rome it is the Jubilee. Reggio must become a European city and it would be nice to shoot a film in Calabria ».
An assist taken by the mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà. «It is a great honor to have hosted Carlo Verdone, a person of great culture, an intellectual with an extraordinary humanity. Our hope is that – visiting the museum and reviewing the bronzes – a story can really be realized for its next artistic work ».
