The carabinieri arrested Giovanni Sutera, 67 years old: To avoid returning to prison – a few months ago he was in Busseto, in the lower Parma area, under house arrest – he had falsely declared that he had to undergo surgery. The declarations provided have not found any foundation in the doctors’ reports, causing the revocation of the momentary benefit given to him by the judiciary. The order was issued by the Criminal Execution Office of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic at the Court of Appeal of Messina. The 67 -year -old is now in the Parma prison.
At the same time as the arrest, the rejection of the optional deferment of the sentence was notified in Sutera, issued by the Florence surveillance court following its request to extend home detention.
According to what emerged from the judicial documents, the 67 -year -old was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the jeweler Vittorio Grassi, killed during a robbery in Florence in 1982, and for the mafia murder of Graziella Campaign 17 years old, killed in Villafranca Tirrena (Messina) in 1985. The girl worked in a laundry and discovered from a lost agenda among the clothes of a client the identity of Gerlando Alberti Junior, a mafia boss whose right arm he would be.
In recent months, the 67 -year -old has obtained for health reasons the temporary benefit of home detention in Busseto but, to avoid returning to prison, he had declared that he had to undergo surgery. The Surveillance Court of Florence, after receiving the application for the convicted, examined the medical reports produced by the healthcare professionals and social workers, noting that the imminent surgery declared was not reflected in any official document. Therefore, he rejected the request and sent the documents to the general prosecutor of the competent Republic, which consequently ordered the immediate restoration of the pre -trial detention in prison. The carabinieri of Busseto identified the home in which Sutera was and accompanied him to the barracks to notify him of the prison measure.
