Great success for an innovative initiative of the ASP of Messina recently presented in Bari to a prestigious national health event entitled “Mediterranean Forum Health”. The proposed management model, the result of listening to the territory, the analysis of the context and of a participatory and inclusive vision of health services is called: “The proximity logistics: the planning of the Sicily Region”. It is an innovative model to allow home delivery of any type of subsidy and garrison to the various patients. This was wanted to be the whole strategic direction of the ASP of Messina led by Giuseppe Cuccì and also composed of the administrative director Giancarlo Niutta and the health director Giuseppe Ranieri Trimarchi

The model was illustrated by Enzo Picciolo, director of the Messina District of the ASP. His was a highly appreciated intervention and applauded by the audience present. “The project – explained Picciolo – is divided into several phases for a prescription and health distribution system of aids and principals up to the home, thus eliminating files in presence and bureaucracy”.

“Its operation is the following, at first – continues Picciolo – the Provincial Health Authority exposes its software to the prescribers of aids and principals of the healthcare companies of the territory of competence. The doctor then accesses with Spid to the digital system compiles and electronically transmits the prescription on the ASP system, which sends notification of the assistance with the therapeutic plan code. Unique centralized warehouse for automated and optimized management of the pharmaceutical warehouse for the whole ASP. (First Expired, First Out, who translates into Italian as “first expired, first released”. This method of management of the warehouse provides that the products with the nearest expiry date are sold or used first, regardless of when they arrived in the warehouse), with quality protocols and traceability. “The digitized process – Picciolo still underlines – offers an intuitive interface that allows doctors to manage the prescriptions effectively and guarantees: the reduction of errors; complete traceability and optimized processing times; in addition to a rapid consultation and monitoring of the same and a greater accuracy in the distribution. The ASP doctor then evaluates and authorizes the prescription by assigning the number of protocol and then the patient receives confirmation of the authorization. With all the details for the delivery of prescribed products.

The strategic direction of the ASP Messina stressed that “this proposal represents a real revolution for our health system, bringing numerous advantages for patients and promoting a simpler and more direct access to assistance services. This approach represents a significant step towards a more modern health system and for men”. We are confident that this new model soon becomes the norm, improving the quality of the services offered to citizens “.
