The low cost vector Ryanair has announced the increase of 1.5 to 2.5 euros of the bonus expected for airport staff when an out of measure baggage is identified before boarding. The decision was confirmed by the same CEO of the Irish airline, Michael O’Leary, during a press conference. “We will probably increase it from the beginning of the winter program in November of this year – he said – and I absolutely do not apologize for this”.
O’Lary also said that the carrier will remove the roof from the bonuses accumulated by employees, currently set at 80 euros per month, to encourage the staff to stop as many luggage as possible in order. “I want our personnel assigned to the ground to stop the system,” said the CEO. Passengers whose hand luggage exceed the maximum dimensions allowed for a small suitcase must pay a penalty of up to 75 euros and their baggage is embarked in the hold. However, the controversy will be inevitable after the announcement of the deus ex machina of the Irish company.
Assoutenti, unacceptable Ryanair bonus against extra-bagagli
The incentive mechanism adopted by Ryanair, which recognizes a 2.5 euro bonus to employees for each out of size baggage, “represents a deeply wrong choice in form and on the merits”. This was stated by Assoutenti, who considers the policy adopted by the Irish airline “unacceptable”. “In travel, and in particular in air transport, the staff must not be placed in contrast with the traveler, transforming control of the rules into a sort of ‘passenger hunting – says President Gabriele Melluso – on the contrary, between travelers and workers in the aerial sector must establish and consolidate a collaboration relationship based on mutual respect and trust”. «Passengers have a duty to respect the rules and the staff have the right to operate safely, without however the airlines transform them into ‘sheriffì rewarded according to the severity or the number of sanctions imposed. A policy that lends itself to excess and harassing behaviors to the detriment of passengers ». “We ask Ryanair and to all companies to abandon divisive logic and instead focus on models that favor cooperation between staff and travelers, in the common interest of a public transport that respect the rights of all”, concludes Melluso.
