In Paola, Thursday 11 September 2025 the “Tirreno Cosentino for Palestine” territorial committee was officially born, the result of a participatory and vibrant assembly which saw the active participation of collectives, associations, committees, towns and citizens, committed to building a strong and concrete alternative to the deafening silence that has been enveloping the Palestinian question for decades.
Among the founding realities: blow, ANPI – Paola section, Unical for Palestine, Gynestra, Sustaria, Alto Tirreno Cosentino coordination – Palestina Libera, the boys of Scarcelli, the good girls, Pd – Lago Section, the La Piazza Association, Meic – Paola Section, Tirrenide, former Convent, Anpi – Amantea Section, Auser – Amantea Section, CGIL – AMANTEA section, CGIL Paola. A large and pluralist alliance, against the policies of colonialism, military employment and apartheid carried out by Israel, who continue to oppress the Palestinian people and of which Italy is shamefully supporter.
The first and urgent political act of the Committee is the presentation of a shared motion for the political and formal recognition of the state of Palestine by the municipalities of the Tyrrhenian Cosentino. An action that is not limited to a symbol, but which intends to send a clear and powerful signal to the institutions: Palestine exists and must be recognized respecting international law, systematically violated. It is enough complicity with the genocide, just silence on the war, enough with the policies that deny the self -determination of the Palestinian people!
The motion, already subjected to the City Council of Paola, will be registered to the attention of the councilors of San Lucido, Diamante, Cetraro, Sangineto, Lago, Longobardi, Scalea, Praia a Mare, Grisolia, Fusaldo, Belmonte Calabro, Tortora, Bonifati, Falconara Albanese, Cleto, Amantea, Fiumefreddo Bruzio, and Lamezia Terme, asking for recognition. of the state of Palestine in the borders prior to 1967, with Jerusalem shared capital, in accordance with article 11 of the Italian Constitution that repudiates the war and promotes peace.
It is a strong and radical appeal that becomes the spokesperson for international solidarity, social justice and peace, against a conflict that has been nourishing violence, oppression and systematic injustices for too long. In the heart of this battle there is the condemnation without compromise of the Israeli employment and colonization policies, of the press and daily genocide that the Palestinian population undergoes, especially in the battered strip of Gaza, reduced to the road from continuous blocks and attacks.
The Committee also supports the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international initiative involving 44 countries with conviction and determination and asks the Italian government to provide full diplomatic coverage to this humanitarian mission of rescue to the Gaza Strip.
Political recognition is not enough: a broad and permanent mobilization is needed that starts from the territories, which involves communities, schools, associations, unions and institutions. It is time to build a solid and widespread network, capable of pressure on the institutions to act in the name of justice, peace and respect for human rights.
We ask all the social, cultural, political, union, citizens, citizens and the towns to join, participate, spread, infect this struggle which is our struggle.
Calabria and the Tyrrhenian Cosentino must make welcome headlights, solidarity and active commitment: no more spectators, but protagonists of a battle that is also ours.
