The EU is reviewing the total ban on the sale of internal combustion engines: from 2035 manufacturers will no longer have to eliminate emissions to zero, but reduce them by 90%, thus leaving room on the market for models that are not completely electric or powered by hydrogen, such as plug-in hybrids and vehicles with range extenders.

The change is contained in the revision of the CO2 emission standards adopted by the EU Commission. The remaining 10% of emissions will have to be “offset” by car manufacturers with the use of low-emission steel or through the use of sustainable fuels, such as e-fuels and advanced biofuels.
