During the meeting, the history and activities of the two associations were told to the journalist, involved in promoting cultural and civic initiatives in the area linked to the themes of legality and participation. Ranucci also had the opportunity to get to know the spaces of the Civico Trame up close and the activities that take place there.
The comparison of information and investigative journalism
In the dialogue with the participants, Sigfrido Ranucci addressed some of the central themes of his work, focusing on freedom of information, the difficulties linked to the acts of intimidation suffered over the years and the condition of living under guard. The journalist also reiterated the value of investigative journalism in reporting on power, corruption and criminal phenomena.
The meeting also offered the opportunity to delve into issues particularly relevant for civic entities such as Trame and ALA, including the contribution of associations, activists and citizens in bringing out stories that would otherwise risk remaining invisible.
The role of the public service
During the discussion, the role of public service broadcasting in guaranteeing spaces for authentic investigative journalism was also discussed, especially on sensitive topics such as corruption and organized crime. Another aspect highlighted concerns the contribution that cultural entities such as the Trame Foundation can offer in developing a critical view of information in citizens, and in particular among younger people.
Author and presenter of Report, Rai’s historic investigative journalism programme, Sigfrido Ranucci has worked in the public service since 1990, carrying out investigations into organized crime, corruption, the environment and the use of public funds. His presence at Civico Trame represented an opportunity for direct discussion on the role of investigative journalism as a safeguard of democracy.
