We focus with determination and attention on the next home match against Nissa, which marks Messina’s return to the field after a week’s break for the “Viareggio Tournament”. A break that the Giallorossi welcomed, both physically and mentally: «It was useful because there is a lot of pressure on the team, for the reputation of the club and the city. We must save the category and, therefore, pressure is inevitable in a place like Messina. The break served to reset, because every now and then it’s also good to take a break”, declared the athletic trainer Antonino Ollio who, however, with all the staff was able to take advantage of the greater time available and without the task of the Sunday match.
«Compared to a classic week of training, we managed to do something more in terms of the concepts that the coach wants to express and there was also an increase in work physically. We worked well and last Thursday we carried out joint training with Jonica to maintain the match rhythm.”
More intense days, but it wasn’t a real reminder of preparation: «We are in a moment of the season in which we have to maintain the state of performance to guarantee the best condition of all the players. Then, every boy is different, but our management of their physical state consists of bringing them into top shape at the same time. It wasn’t a reminder, even if on Saturday we gave some more input, taking advantage of the following two free days. The guys know what is needed and they work well.”
Furthermore, technology has also come to support Antonino Ollio, who can thus have even more precise data on the team’s form: «For about a month I have been using an external load monitoring system and I am evaluating the work we are doing. This allows you to carry out different jobs, to reduce “dry” work, as they say in jargon, work without the ball – he explained -. The team is maintaining a high pace of intensity and recovery, an aspect that we lacked in December. We are in 90-95% condition.”
