A participatory public debate on the reasons for the NO to the Constitutional Referendum took place in Rende at the Hotel San Francesco, promoted by the Rende Democratic Party Club led by the city secretary Ettore Morelli.

Present in the room was the Honorable Debora Serracchiani, head of the Justice Department of the Democratic Party, welcomed by a large audience and a climate of strong participation.

The secretary Ettore Morelli opened the proceedings, highlighting the need to build a broad and conscious mobilization in defense of the Constitution. Then the professor of constitutional and public law at Unical, Alessandro Mazzitelli, the lawyer Anna Falcone and the regional secretary of the Democratic Party of Calabria, Nicola Irto, spoke, connected remotely. During the discussion, political criticism emerged of the current Italian government, accused of wanting to intervene on the checks and balances of the Constitution and on the balance of state powers through a reform deemed risky for the autonomy and independence of the judiciary.

The meeting was closed by Debora Serracchiani, who illustrated the reasons for the NO, denouncing what she considers the dangers of a reform capable of fragmenting the unity of the judiciary and significantly altering the institutional structure of the country. His speech was accompanied by long applause, a sign of the appreciation and affection of the audience present.

The reopening of the PD club in Rende, after a long period of inactivity, confirms the desire to return to the city an open space for participation and discussion. A signal that strengthens the role of democrats as a point of reference for the local and national political debate.
