Pizzo, truck trapped in the historic center: municipal workers avoid chaos PHOTO

Yet another truck ends up in the center of Pizzo, but this time some municipal workers took care of avoiding inconveniences and traffic blockages. The heavy vehicle stopped near the Sanctuary intersection, warned by motorists that continuing along the urban stretch could turn into a nightmare, both for the driver and for traffic itself. A decidedly complicated situation, which occurred in the late morning of today, when the large truck with semi-trailer headed towards the Vibo marinas followed the satellite navigator to the letter, regardless of coming across a historic center whose road network was created when the roads were not designed for such imposing vehicles. Scene from a film already seen, which is repeated with worrying frequency every time modern logistics encounter ancient, narrow and decidedly busy streets.

This time however, the workers averted the worst by helping the driver to “reverse”. But the maneuver to reverse gear and return to the Sp95, towards Marinella, was decidedly difficult, and then continued on the Ss18, crossing via Nazionale and finally reaching the destination. The sensation conveyed to the users present at that juncture was of “maneuvering at the limit” which often happens in the city. How to prevent this from happening? From Angitola the signs exist, but often they are not enough to counteract distraction or blind trust in navigators. From the entrance at the Vibo Marina intersection, however, the absence of an ordinance – a provision by the Province or the capital municipality – prevents the installation of signs that divert heavy vehicles onto the Vibo-Pizzo route, thus avoiding entry into the urban center of Pizzo. In short, a difficult moment was escaped today, but with summer upon us, the increase in means of transport and the terrible heatwave, it will be a good idea to act early.
