«The Government intervened today with a new decree to extend the reduction in excise duties on fuel, expanding the measure with a targeted intervention to support farmers and exporting companies. It is a necessary measure to deal with a particularly delicate phase, marked by international tensions which are producing concrete effects on energy costs and the economy”. Thus, in a post on X, the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The prime minister adds: «We know that the picture remains complex. For this reason, the Government will continue to monitor the evolution of the international scenario with the utmost attention and to work on every intervention necessary to protect families, businesses and jobs”.

Adoc: “The confirmation of the cut was good, but more courage was needed”

«The confirmation of the extension of the excise duty cut until May 1st and the targeted intervention on agricultural companies are good, to which the tax cut already adopted for fishing is extended. But the current scenario, diesel prices above 2.1 euros/litre throughout Italy and an increase in the price of gas for vulnerable customers of 19.2% required more courage, the Draghi government, in the previous crisis, had had more vision, bringing the excise duty cut to 30 euro cents/litre and lowering the VAT on gas to 5%”. Adoc writes this in a note. «We expected an increase in aid, so the measures risk being insufficient for companies and families. The inflationary spiral has started and has already brought +1.7% in March! The international crisis does not seem to have an end in the short term and the risk of an energy shock like in ’73 appears ever closer: the Italian government imposed the reduction of public lighting, the early closure of shops and the limitation of television programmes, in addition to the famous “walking Sundays” in a very different context from that of today which places Italy in great difficulty compared to other European countries” concludes the association.
