An appeal “for the unity of all the forces of the left and centre-left”, which translates into the request for “Progetto Reggio” to take a step back from Anna Nucera’s candidacy for mayor and instead join the coalition that supports Mimmo Battaglia. It was launched by the metropolitan secretariat of the Democratic Party and Battaglia himself, who released a document yesterday.
«The Democratic Party and the candidate for the office of mayor – we read in the press release – make an appeal to the unity of all the forces of the left and centre-left in the next administrative electoral competition which takes place in a very particular climate due to the growing dangers of extension of the war of aggression in the Middle East and the multiplication of the economic difficulties that lie ahead for our country also due to that war and which add to a growth that places us at the bottom of the European ranking in terms of GDP. These obvious difficulties should not allow unnecessary waste such as that of the company’s salaries for the Strait Bridge, expenses which amount, for 2025, to around 12 million euros, exactly double the cost of breast cancer prevention which the Government has cancelled. In this context – continue Battaglia and the PD secretariat – it is evident that the maximum unity of similar forces can generate a positive result to ensure the city a government that knows how to combine discontinuity and reformist capacity for managing public affairs. We therefore make an appeal to all the forces of the left, including and perhaps above all, to those who have exercised the right to a critical judgment on the past and who are not averse to recognizing the positive facts that have been achieved. We ask “Progetto Reggio” to reflect on the decision to independently present Prof.’s candidacy for mayor. Anna Nucera and we propose to join the center-left coalition with Mimmo Battaglia as mayor.”
