Messina, Cathedral packed for the Easter night vigil

The cathedral was packed for the Easter night vigil, one of the most heartfelt and popular moments of the year for the Christian community. Numerous faithful gathered to share a celebration, presided over by the archbishop, which was intense and full of meaning. Among the most evocative moments, the fire ritual, lit at the beginning of the celebration in the cathedral churchyard, symbolically marked the entry into the Easter night: from that initial flame the light spread, passed from hand to hand among the faithful, until it illuminated the entire assembly. Then the blessing of the water, another central sign of the vigil, a reminder of new life, culminating in the renewal of the baptismal promises by those present. A particularly touching moment was that of the sacraments of Christian initiation (baptism, confirmation and Eucharist) conferred on the catechumen Vanessa, 29 years old, from the San Marco parish in Milazzo, who thus completed her journey of faith by fully entering the community. This morning at 11 am the pontifical mass in the cathedral. At 10.30 in Piazza Duomo the Spampanati festival.
