«It would have a devastating effect. I prefer not to think about it but it would certainly be a scenario to avoid.” Thus the president of Federalberghi Calabria, Fabrizio D’Agostino, comments with ANSA on the possible effects of the shortage of fuel jets, and the consequent reduction in flights, on the upcoming summer season. «We are in a period of transition – explains D’Agostino -. There are months in which the trip is confirmed, the flight and the holiday are booked and it is done at a certain price and if it were to change then it would be dramatic. The effects are already visible if you consider that charter flights are already being closed. It takes months to plan a charter and I am also aware of companies that have postponed confirming both the price and the trip. I have a Calabrian vision but it is the national circuit that is breaking down along a double path. There is local tourism which will certainly not suffer repercussions but the foreign tourism constantly arriving in our region from Spain, France and above all from Germany will begin to have a decline. The next few weeks, but also the next month will be decisive.”

For now the Calabrian situation does not present any particular critical issues. «The large villages – explains D’Agostino – used to open after Easter but this persistent cold has delayed the openings. A real decline will not be seen in these weeks. However, many openings are already expected by the end of April and I believe that many entrepreneurs will decide to postpone for a week. Naturally, a lot depends on whether bookings are confirmed or not.” These are themes that will be at the center of the next regional board. “What is happening and what is being heard, threats of attacks and ultimatums, will have direct consequences” concludes D’Agostino.
