There are still changes within the municipal council of Monforte, with the subsequent resignation of president Giovanni Cannistrà, who thus motivated his choice. «It’s a painful decision – he explains –. I note, with regret, that the political and institutional conditions no longer exist to carry out this role in a credible, effective manner and worthy of its functions. My resignation – adds the now former president – represents a clear political choice. I do not intend to lend myself to the logic of power nor to remain in a context in which the city council is progressively emptied of its role and bent to dynamics far from the interest of the community, even though it cannot be reduced to a place of personal interests nor a battle ground. In this context – he concludes – the role of president has effectively been placed in a position where it cannot operate”.
Giovanni Cannistrà, who clearly remains a municipal councilor, defends the role held as president, claiming to have ensured impartiality, application of the rules and equal dignity to all councilors, placing democratic debate at the center of the activity.
