Some unsolicited advice to the candidates for mayor comes from the Higher Institute of Political and Social Training “Mons. Antonio Lanza” and from the Diocesan Council of Lay Aggregations. «Reggio is a wonderful city, but it is equally true – they write – that it is the city where in 2012 the Municipality was dissolved due to mafia proximity; out of 96 municipalities in the metropolitan city, 32 have been dissolved, even several times; the ASP has been dissolved twice (2008 and 2019); a continuous youth “depopulation” is underway, with a consequent dramatic increase in the average age: in 2017, Reggio had 181,447 inhabitants, today there are 168,779; the unemployment rate is very high and the closure of small commercial, artisanal and entrepreneurial activities is increasing; there are too many unfinished public works and too many “inaugurations” of only partially completed works; electoral abstentionism has increased; public disservices in 2025 brought it down in the ranking to last place among Italian cities in terms of quality of life.”
