The testimonies of those who leave a supermarket or a fruit and vegetable shop, after paying the bill, would be enough to understand the mood of an increasingly afflicted consumer civilization. Banks and finance companies have been on alert for some time. The economic situation risks not bringing the money from mortgages and consumer loans back into cash due to the difficulties of debtors. Ever since the war arrived in the Middle East, and those who operate on the markets know well that wars are the mother of all speculation, people have been living in fear.
Bloodletting at the table
Assoutenti reports increases in prices, above all, of fresh foodstuffs. The high cost of fuel has caused the prices of fresh food products to skyrocket which, as is known, travel by road and are directly affected by the trend in the price of diesel. The association, which protects consumer rights with particular attention to public services, carried out a study through the processing of Istat data to understand which goods were most affected by the price increases at the fuel pump. In the lead are aubergines, which recorded the most marked increase in the last month, with a +21.5% on an annual basis. Followed by peas (+19.6%) and berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and currants) growing by +16.3%. Significant increases also for courgettes (+11.1%), lemons (+10.8%), strawberries (+10.4%), legumes (+9.9%) and tomatoes (+9%). Artichokes (+8.8%), eggs (+8.5%), beef (+8.4%) and sheep meat (+7.2%) do not stop, while cauliflower and broccoli rise by +7.2%, citrus fruits by +6.6% and peppers by +6.4%. Non-food goods are also growing.
