The toll from the road accident that occurred yesterday, shortly after 10pm, on State Road 106, in the Rovitti area, on the northern outskirts of Trebisacce, is two dead and five seriously injured. The victims are Giuseppe Franco and Antonietta Vivacqua, husband and wife, residents of Oriolo: they were traveling together with three minors (the daughter and two of her companions) – all seriously injured – in a Ford Focus.
The car, for reasons that are being ascertained by the traffic police, collided with an Opel Meriva and a BMW 520. The drivers of the two cars were seriously injured. The Polstrada crews, the firefighters of the Castrovillari Detachment and some Suem 118 ambulances from the “Chidichimo” and “Giannettasio” stations in Rossano arrived on site immediately after the request for help from some passing motorists.
The situation immediately appeared serious. The man and woman presumably died instantly. The emergency service doctors, immediately after extracting the bodies from the deformed sheet metal of the car, tried to resuscitate them but every attempt was in vain. The other five injured were loaded on board the emergency vehicles and some were transferred to the “Chidichimo” in Trebisacce, others to the “Giannettasio” in Rossano.
Highway 106 was blocked for several hours. The findings were carried out by highway officials. Anas personnel were also on site to remove the damaged vehicles and restore the road surface. The news spread late at night in the victims’ communities of residence, leaving everyone dismayed. The bodies have been seized pending autopsy tests.
