«Everything has been done to try to extend them also because we are faced with a real problem caused by the various cyclones that hit Calabria. I think it’s a fair request, it was rejected but we’ll see how to deal with the issue. In the Regional Council we presented a bill that extends the concessions regardless of what happens at central level.”
The vice-president of the Regional Council of Calabria, Filippo Mancuso, and a member of the League, told ANSA in Catanzaro on the sidelines of the presentation of the volume “Euripides at the Greek theater of Syracuse”, regarding the Senate Budget Commission’s rejection of the amendment aimed at extending beach concessions for establishments affected by bad weather. «We intend to move forward and, faced with a possible rejection by the Government, appeal to the Constitutional Court. If the elements are there, we will certainly also appeal to the European Court, he added. «I believe it is a necessary action to try to stay close to those who have suffered damage and are preparing to face the bathing season. Furthermore, on May 4th, the Fincalabra platform will be opened to pay the first compensation payments to businesses. They will above all be seaside resorts”, underlined Mancuso.
Sib Calabria: “The stop to the extension of concessions is yet another injustice”
«It was yet another serious injustice, we didn’t expect it. An extension of just a few years, to give hard-hit businesses the chance to recover, was denied by bringing up Bolkestein or, even, for financial coverage and the risk of infringement proceedings. But in an emergency state none of this exists.” Antonio Giannotti, president of Sib Calabria, declared this to ANSA regarding the Senate Budget Commission’s rejection of the amendment that extended beach concessions in areas affected by bad weather. «It is yet another serious blow to this category. Something we don’t understand. The reasons given by the Mef do not hold up. The Contract Code also provides that, in a moment of difficulty, a concession or public act can be extended. There is no mitigating factor for such an unexpected denial”, underlines Giannotti.
