Medical investigations will clarify the causes of the serious illness that struck an 11-year-old child today in a comprehensive institution on the Tyrrhenian coast.

Illness in the classroom

The emergency occurred in the morning, while the boy was following lessons with his classmates. The little boy, suffering from a delicate heart condition, suddenly collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest, generating moments of great fear within the school.

In a few moments, teachers and school staff alerted 118, starting the first rescue maneuvers while waiting for the arrival of health workers.

The rescue and the transfer to Cetraro

Emergency workers immediately began life-saving maneuvers and resuscitation attempts directly in the institution, working tirelessly to keep the child alive.

The child was then urgently transferred to the emergency room of the “Gino Iannelli” hospital in Cetraro, where he arrived in critical condition, in cardiac arrest and with post-arrest convulsive seizures.

The race against time

In the Cetrara garrison, the protocol for the most complex emergencies was implemented: doctors and nurses performed advanced resuscitation and life support maneuvers in the decisive minutes.

Given the seriousness of the clinical picture, the intervention of the air ambulance was also requested, but adverse weather conditions prevented the flight, making it necessary to transfer by land with a medical ambulance.

Hospitalization in Cosenza

After being stabilized thanks to the work of the Cetraro emergency room team, the child was intubated and transferred to the “Annunziata” hospital in Cosenza, where he is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit under close observation. Moments of great apprehension also for the family, with the mother arriving in hospital during the rescue phases.
