A KLM flight attendant was tested for hantavirus after experiencing mild symptoms and was hospitalized in Amsterdam. This was stated by a spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Health.
The flight attendant came into contact with the Dutch woman who was dropped off before take-off from the KLM plane she had tried to board on April 25 to leave Johannesburg for Amsterdam. The crew, given their health conditions, had refused transport. The woman then died. Health authorities are contacting people on board the flight “as a precaution,” KLM said.
Operator: “No individuals with hantavirus symptoms on the cruise”
“All passengers showing hantavirus symptoms were disembarked from the MV Hondius.” This was stated in a statement by Oceanwide Expeditions, the Dutch operator managing the cruise. After the evacuation of three passengers in the Netherlands, including “one asymptomatic and two symptomatic”, there are no symptomatic individuals on board, the operator reports. The ship is now headed from Cape Verde to the Canary Islands, where around 100 passengers and crew members remaining on board will be monitored and allowed to return by plane to their respective countries of origin.
