The Municipality of Santa Maria del Cedro has approved the public tender scheme for the awarding of state-owned maritime concessions for tourism-accommodation purposes in compliance with the Bolkestein directive of the European Union to open the services market to free competition.
This is the first case in the Cosenza Tyrrhenian Sea of adaptation to European legislation which provides for public auctions for the release of state-owned maritime concessions which will put an end to the automatic renewal regime. A total of 54 lots will be put up for tender along the coast of Santa Maria del Cedro. The announcement will concern next year’s season. The tender scheme, which recalls the national “standard” one of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, on the basis of the competition law provides for compensation equal to the value of investments made and not yet amortized for the pre-existing concessionaire in the event of the granting of the concession to a new entity.
For this reason, the Municipality of Santa Maria del Cedro will proceed with the publication of the notice only after having acquired an appraisal from the current concessionaires reporting the compensation due. The state concessions of Santa Maria del Cedro are now under extension until September 2027. Currently, some of these concessions have been seized by the judicial authorities for illegal occupation and other crimes. The measure is pending before the review court.
