The mayor of Civita, a town in the province of Cosenza, Alessandro Tocci was sentenced to 4 years and one month in prison by the Court of Castrovillari for multiple manslaughter and omission of official acts in relation to the tragedy of 20 August 2018 when a flood in the gorges of the Raganello torrent caused the death of ten people, nine hikers and a guide, and 11 injured. The hiking guide Giovanni Vangieri was also sentenced to 3 years and 5 months, while the other defendants were acquitted. The Prosecutor’s Office had asked for Tocci to be sentenced to 9 years and Vangieri to 8 years.
