Reggio Calabria confirms itself as one of the blue strongholds. Forza Italia is the first party in Reggio Calabria, growing compared to the city data of last year’s regional elections and of the 2022 elections, slightly declining Brothers of Italy – second party in the city – compared to the regional elections and elections but doubling the votes compared to the previous municipal ones. The League declines compared to the 2020 municipal elections and the 2025 regional elections but grows compared to the latest policies. The Democratic Party collapses, halving its votes compared to regional and political elections. This, in short, is the outcome of the administrative consultations of 25 and 26 May in Reggio Calabria which led to the election of the Italian Francesco Cannizzaro as mayor.
The sum of the Forza Italia and Cannizzaro mayoral lists reaches 25%
Forza Italia obtains 12.46% to which, however, must be added the figure from the “Cannizzaro mayor” list, 12.44% emanating from Forza Italia, for a 24.96%, up compared to the regional elections last October (21.13%) and the 2022 elections (17.05%) and more than doubling the figure for the municipal elections of 2020 (11.10%).
The other lists
The prime minister’s party obtained 11.22%, halving the figure for the 2022 elections (22.29%) and losing around 3 points in the 2025 regional elections (14.06%) but gaining 4 in the previous administrative elections (7.75%). The League reaches 6.81%, more than halving the votes of the regional elections seven months ago (15.10%) but doubling the 3.89% of the 2022 Chamber and growing compared to the 4.69% of the 2020 municipal elections. An excellent result was achieved by Reggio futuro, the list inspired and created by the former mayor and former governor Giuseppe Scopelliti which beat the League, reaching 8.20% of the votes.
Collapse of the Democratic Party
The Democratic Party, the fourth party in these consultations, drops to a single figure of 9.48%, in line with the 10.53% of the municipal elections 6 years ago, but halving the consensus compared to the 18.20% of the 2022 elections and the 18.32% of the city data for the regional elections in October. The 5 Star Movement supported the candidacy of Domenico Battaglia but without presenting its own list. Representatives of the movement were present at the mayoral candidate’s meeting.
