Yesterday, soldiers of the Carabinieri and agents of the State Police carried out a series of local and house searches on the initiative of five subjects, who were seriously suspected of being involved in a series of thefts committed in the last two weeks between Sant’Agata di Militello, Acquedolci and San Fratello, and therefore referred for “theft” and “receiving stolen goods”.
The activity arises from a complex and detailed investigation developed synergistically by the Public Safety Commissioner of Sant’Agata di Militello and the local Carabinieri Company under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Patti, after numerous thefts had occurred against various public and private sites, including two schools, an employment centre, a bar and several other commercial establishments in the area, generating particular social alarm.
The investigation, conducted by the two police units without interruption, was developed first of all through a timely systemic analysis of the images of numerous video surveillance systems, which made it possible to cross-reference all the sources of evidence and the information collected, comparing the clothing used during the commission of the crimes and acquiring fingerprints at the places of the crimes, until the possible perpetrators were identified.
The findings collected therefore made it possible to direct suspicion towards the suspects, making the searches carried out yesterday necessary. In fact, the research activities confirmed the circumstantial framework gathered up to that point, as various items of clothing believed to be compatible with those used during the thefts were found and seized in the homes of the interested parties, as well as various objects suitable for burglary, as well as various stolen goods, including “Scratch and Win” coupons and IT devices intended for educational activities, for a total value of approximately 40 thousand euros.
In this regard, of particular importance was the recovery of almost all of the stolen goods removed from the Liceo Classico of Sant’Agata di Militello, which had constituted one of the most serious episodes. Furthermore, during the same investigation it also emerged that, to commit some episodes, the alleged perpetrators also used a stolen scooter, found a few days later.
The operation is the result of a synergistic and timely collaboration between the Carabinieri Company and the Police Station of Sant’Agata di Militello, who – by systematizing their respective investigative findings, coordinated by the Patti Public Prosecutor’s Office – valorised the evidentiary material collected, quickly providing an effective response to the residents of the area affected by the criminal episodes.
